Austin
Besides being the state capitol, Austin might very well be the state’s king of free-spiritedness, too. This vivacious city is the birthplace of the SXSW festival that draws creatives from around the world.
Austin
(Overview)
It has grown into the “Live Music Capital of the World.’’ It’s been dubbed “Silicon Hills,’’ for its burgeoning tech hub that includes Tesla, Apple, Whole Foods headquarters, and numerous startups.
Central Texas-style barbecue is legendary. So, too are the area's legion of food trucks -- the second largest number per capita in the United States -- that serve every cuisine under the sun. What better way to take in all of that but from the comfortable seat of a pedicab? Your clients will never forget this fun time, in which they’re transported in this unique, eco-friendly way to a famed food truck, a renowned restaurant, and a speakeasy in a most unusual location.
Clients not only enjoy unobstructed views of this colorful city from a pedicab, but the ease of stopping to snap photos at some of its most iconic settings. Among the stops is the pedestrian-only Pfluger Bridge that spans the Lady Bird Lake. Its distinctive double-hourglass shape epitomizes modern urban infrastructure that carefully combines form and function. Another stop is the Doug Sahm Hill Summit Spiral, named for the legendary Texas musician Douglas Wayne Sahm, whose range encompassed everything from the German polkas and Tejano music to the blues and rock. Climb the spiral path to the top of this park for a breathtaking view of the entire city.
With appetites revved, clients will sink their teeth into freshly made tacos at one of the city’s most popular food trucks, Taqueria De Diaz.
Then, it’s on to view a series of dramatic murals: Tau Ceti, a rainbow prism that’s the city’s tallest artwork at 10 stories tall; “I Love You So Much,’’ an emblematic piece of graffiti originally painted on the side of a coffee shop by singer-songwriter Amy Cook after an argument with her partner, Liz Lambert, who owns the establishment; and “Greetings From Austin,’’ a retro postcard-style mural that showcases the city’s best known landmarks.
To quench the thirst, clients will visit the aptly named Garage, a speakeasy hidden inside a real concrete parking garage. In this moody, subterranean space with soaring ceilings, guests will enjoy a signature cocktail or mocktail in a truly transportive setting.
Lastly, they’ll savor savory signature dishes, decadent desserts, and a cocktail or mocktail at Comedor, a contemporary Mexican restaurant that was recognized by the Michelin Guide.
A professional guide is included who leads the way while entertaining with captivating stories about the sights along the way. There’s no better way to experience such an unconventional city than on an excursion that’s equally as distinctive.
