The restaurants visited include: Aker, the sleek downtown venue that creatively melds modern Japanese izakaya fare with Latin American flavors, and was named a finalist for “Best of Salt Lake’’ in 2026 by Salt Lake Magazine; Bodega and The Rest, with the former a fun tavern with pinball and casual eats, and the latter a subterranean speakeasy with stepped-up food and cocktails that gained the attention of the Boston Globe and New York Times; and Eva, a small plates restaurant with big, brash Mediterranean flavors.
